Dr Rajinder Atwal, MD, CCFP, FCFP and Yasmin Atwal are the founders of Women STEM Mentorship. They want to cultivate an environment where any women can thrive and excel in their STEM aspirations.

Dr. AtwalDr Rajinder Atwal is the medical director and CEO of a busy medical facility, an entrepreneur and the CEO of three non profit medical organizations. She is the cofounder and CEO of Women STEM Mentorship. With a passion for bridging the gender gap in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, she has spearheaded this organization to provide invaluable mentorship and guidance to young women pursuing their dreams in these disciplines. Through strategic partnerships, personalized mentorship programs, and engaging events, Women STEM Mentorship is driving positive change, fostering diversity, and shaping a more inclusive future in the world of STEM. She is breaking barriers, shattering glass ceilings, and cultivating a community where women thrive and excel in their STEM aspirations.

She opened a family practice and walk in clinic in 2003 which has since provided ongoing care to over 130000 patients mainly immigrants, refugees and those from marginalized communities. She is a leader, mentor and preceptor for students through the Canadian Association for Medical Education. She is an examiner for the Canadian College of Family Physicians.

Dr. Atwal is the founder CEO of Covid 24-7 Canada which is 24 hr virtual nonprofit service provided by physicians, infectious disease specialists, emergency physicians and Covid researchers. She also helped to recruit patients into clinical trials for new Covid medications through the University Health Network.

She leads by example, inspires and motivates students daily in her office through medical education and her love of learning. As an educational leader and preceptor, she aspires to make a valuable and real contribution in the lives of students. She is also an examiner for the Canadian College of Family Physicians.

As a Co-founder and on the Board of Director for Beyond Boundaries Soccer, Dr. Atwal has promoted social inclusion to allow individuals with intellectual and/or physical disabilities to participate in the sport of soccer. She offers free opportunities for youth with special needs whether they rely on a wheelchair, walker, orthotics, or grapple with intellectual, communication (ASD), or developmental challenges to reap the psychological and physical benefits of soccer.

In her role as Co-founder and on the Board of Director of Green Teen Generation, Dr. Atwal mentors youth to become leaders in environmental conservation and climate action. She has been actively involved in shaping the organization's initiatives, such as organizing educational workshops, advocating for eco-friendly practices, and leading community-based projects to address environmental challenges.

Dr. Atwal has also served of the board of directors for Girls Action Foundation (GAF) which builds the skills and confidence of girls, young women and gender diverse youth. They address violence prevention, mental health promotion and provide mentorship, knowledge sharing, networking and community building. Dr Atwal has authored the book “Breaking Barriers: Women in STEM”.

Dr. Atwal has a passion for research to expand her knowledge base and raise awareness of new issues. She has conducted research in cardiovascular health, asthma, HIV, ophthalmology and Covid. Dr. Atwal was involved in Covid clinical research trials with the University of Health Network to test a treatment for Covid-19 using Peginterferon Lambda. This treatment held great promise for treating Covid-19.

She has a list of accolades that includes: Global Power Leader: Exemplary Women of the Year in Healthcare 2025, Honorary Doctorate from Ceta University 2025, 2025 Distinguished Doctor of the Year, 2024 Global Recognition Award for Mentorship, Top 3 Mentors in Canada from Women Empowerment Awards in 2024, NYC Journal Top 30 Women Leaders to Follow in 2024, 10 Most Inspiring Leaders to Follow in 2024, Winner of Waterfront Award for Science and Technology 2023, Women in Business Women of the Year Healthcare, Medical and Biotech 2023, Female Achiever Lifetime Achievement Award 2023, 100 Women Power Leaders of Asian Origin 2023, and Finalist Women of Influence Success Magazine 2023. She also won the Top Doctor of the Month from Doctors Choice Awards in May 2020. She was also named in the 2018 Leading Physicians of the World Directory. She is an award recipient of: Best Medical Student Dictator, University of Calgary Undergraduate Merit Award, Three-time University of Calgary Faculty of Dean’s List, Louise McKinney Scholarship, Herald Newspaper Centennial Bursary, Higher Education Award, Alberta Cultural Linguistic Prize of Excellence for Performance in French, Canada Scholarship Award, and Teagle Foundation Scholarship.

She has also been nominated for a number of awards in 2023: Women’s Executive Network (WXN) Top 100 Awards, Medical Post award, Women Helping Empower Women, and Women Empowerment Leadership Award. She was also a Women of Inspiration Award Nominee for year 2020.

She holds association memberships with: College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, Ontario Medical Association, Canadian Federation of Medical Women, American Academy of Family Physicians, Canadian Association for Medical Education, World Organization of Family Doctors, Coalition of Ontario Doctors, Canadian Society of Physician Leaders, Canadian Medical Association, Medical Women’s International Association, and Society for Canadian Women in Science and Technology.

Dr. Atwal was a clinical supervisor for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and is currently a physician supervisor for Remicade Clinical Infusion trials Remicade clinical infusion trials are used to treat inflammation associated with Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis and Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Yasmin AtwalYasmin Atwal is a freshman university student. Yasmin is an animal lover, award winning Equestrian, and a talented vocalist. She is a Tedx speaker and previous member of the Havergal swim team. Yasmin is passionate about giving back to the community through volunteer work. She has volunteered extensively with a wide array of animals and in a healthcare environment. Yasmin in an avid reader and she is also involved with The American Society for Bioethics and Humanities, Young Professionals in Foreign Policy, Justice for Children and Youth, The Honor Society, The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and WomanACT to eradicate violence against women. She is also the co- founder of Green Teen Generation. She is greatly interested in environmental sustainability and she was a speaker and an organizer of The World Youth Sustainability Summit. She runs a YouTube channel called Yasmin’s Legal Lounge dedicated to exploring important and timely legal issues, making complex topics accessible and engaging for youth while raising awareness about their rights and responsibilities. Yasmin is a proud World Peace Ambassador and she is the author of the book The Human Code: Law Through Our Eyes.

Yasmin has won numerous awards such Top 20 under 20 for Global Impact, Rising Global Star in 2025, Transformational Leader of the Year 2025 Rising Star: Young Visionary, Suffolk Regional Award 2025, American Citizenship Award 2025 and Global Volunteer Recognition Award/ Medal 2025 and 2024. She also received th Latin Award for National Latin Competition 2023, Toronto Equestrian Downtown Schooling show with multiple ribbons from 1st place and 5th place, Silver Series Hunter/Jumper (Equestrian) show 5th, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons, Havergal Entrance Scholarship (Wendy J. Thompson Scholarship) awarded to an exceptional incoming student, Byron Germain math medal Mathematica Centrum top 1 percent nationally and Spirit of Math Honor Roll and Award. She was also a finalist for the International Recognition Award by Influencer Magazine U.K.

She is passionate about women in STEM and advancing equality and equity. Through Women STEM Mentorship, she fosters an empowering community dedicated to supporting women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The initiative works to bridge the gender gap in these fields by equipping women with the tools, resources, and guidance needed to thrive in their careers.
